HOW to ....

There are some very decisif differences between French legal system and the legal system of the common law;  in the following days the article will be completed here, to help you understand the differences ; please compare our "General Conditions".

Generally speaking: in France everything and anything has to be written down. That's why you should allways have the necessary documents to verify, to see and to sign; everything else is not really valid!

The advantage: as soon as its written down, it is valid and can allways be prooved - and it cannot be changed unless there is something else written !

There is no gazumping, as soon as the will of the seller and the purchaser is wiritten down,  concerning the price, the purchase object, the delais and the concerned persons, there is nothing to be changed unless a new contract / written document is provided!

The customer is very well protected - even sometimes in such a way that it is not very pleasant to him and the seller!

You'll see later in which cases this can come true -

but generally speaking: from the legal point of view the customer (buyer, tenant) is absolutely well protected! You just need to know that - and to find someone who works according to these laws - which is not allways the case, especially in the South of France, where the attitude towards the laws is caracterized by a certain personal liberty in interpreting or applying the own  Law!
